I want to hit you with a business video marketing statistic. Check this out:

“62% of adult internet users watch video online.” (Pew Internet)

Hold on, I’ve got another one:

“Nine in ten internet users ages 18-29 use video sharing sites.” (Pew Internet)

Here’s the bit that’s going to make your mind implode:

Those are statistics from 2009.

Business Video Marketing Use In 2015 Is Staggering, And It’s Only Getting Bigger

In 2014, 64% of consumer internet traffic was video (thanks Cisco). In the 5 years since the 2009 Pew Internet report, video consumption online hasn’t just been increasing—it’s been blasting through hyperspace.

It gets better. Cisco also believes that, by 2019, video will be between eighty and ninety percent of consumer internet traffic.

Yes, that’s a real projection, and yes, that’s freakin’ insane

If you’re selling to consumers, video is where you need to be—period. There are entire social media platforms based solely on video (like periscope), and a small but growing portion of periscope is business video marketing.

But even the older social media platforms are adopting video—Facebook is doing its damndest to become the new YouTube (and it’s sort of working).

If you use Facebook (and at this point, about 1/7th of the world’s population does), you’ve probably noticed that video has been flooding your newsfeed for a while now. And a very large portion of that is business video marketing.

Facebook itself reports that users in the US are uploading 94% more videos in 2015 than they did in 2014. How many people are actually watching these videos on Facebook is up for debate, but the videos are still there.

And they’re not going away. Big brands are taking advantage—they’re flooding Facebook with business video marketing campaigns.

Are you taking advantage?

Video Is Everywhere, But Is Business Video Marketing Viable For A Small Business?

If you’re running a small business, a true business video marketing campaign probably seems out of reach. You might be thinking, “I can’t do video—I don’t have a video camera/I don’t have time/I can’t match the production values of the big guys/I don’t have the cash to pay a production company/I don’t—”

STOP. Please.

Take all that negativity and throw it out the window. You don’t have to be a large brand with deep pockets to create an engaging business video marketing campaign that your target audience will love. It doesn’t even have to be a traditional form of business video marketing to make an impact—it can just be something useful

Take us, for example.

We create a new business video about once a month where we interview a subject matter expert on a topic we know our audience is interested in. We spend about an hour prepping interview questions, reach out to our friends on social media to find our subject matter expert, and interview them through Google Hangouts.

Is this business video marketing? You bet your sweet honey muffins it is.

The video content is targeted specifically to our audience, increasing the chance that they’ll view our videos.

But if you’re not targeting, if you don’t have a very specific audience clearly in mind, and if you’re not creating a business video marketing campaign specifically for this audience, one that speaks to them, that resonates with them, that brings them the information they need in a presentation style they love, well…

You’ll get lost in the noise—it’s loud out there friends.

And how do you find that target audience for this as-yet uncreated business video marketing campaign?

Here’s a video on exactly that subject (we simply couldn’t honestly publish this post without a video now could we?)

Every Second, Nearly One Million Minutes Of Video Content Will Cross The Network By 2019 (Cisco)

If that statistic didn’t make your brain explode out of your skull, pull out its phone, order an uber, and kick rocks for Mexico City, this one will, “It would take an individual over 5 million years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks each month in 2019.”

Hmmm… people might not have time to watch your video.

But that’s only if they watch all the videos (which they can’t). So they’ll do what we all do:

They’ll comb through all the video content out there and look for something that stands out from the crowd, something made specifically for them. Your proposed business video marketing idea needs to precisely target that audience.

If you watched the video and you’re still having trouble identifying your audience, read up on audience persona templates—they’ll help you define your audience, and they only take about 30 minutes to fill out.

Targeted Business Video Marketing Works, And It Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive

If your video is targeted to your audience, they’re more likely to watch it. Your video will suddenly become a clear, crisp note singing out through the ocean of noise that is the internet.

They watch your video, check out your website, gather information, and, eventually…

They’ll make contact. The process begins, and the video you made with your laptop and an hour or two of prep time pays for itself.

But your video doesn’t even have to meet those brutally high standards—what if you don’t have a laptop? You probably have a smartphone though.

So does our totally awesome friend Bridget Willard. She has this awesome business video marketing strategy called The Guru Minute (#GuruMinute) where she creates useful videos that are about one minute long.

Her audience finds these videos valuable, she has literally zero production costs, and she does the whole thing on her smartphone. That’s business video marketing at its finest.

Where Will Your Business Video Marketing Videos Send Potential Clients?

If you don’t have a website for your audience to go to (or worse, you’re just sending them to a Facebook page), you might lose the lead.

If you need a website (or you want to fix your existing website), you’re in luck—websites are our bread and butter. Click here to learn more about the website solutions we have available.
