If you’ve ever wanted to learn the past, present, and future of SEO, then boy do we have the infographic for you.
The biggest goal for many online businesses and blog owners is to get as much organic traffic as possible. Kicking butt at SEO and ending up at the number one spot in a search engine’s rankings is a desirable position, but not one that comes easily—you’ll have to work very hard in order to get there.
There are a handful of strategies that businesses put in place to improve their search engine optimization, and in turn, improve their online visibility. The whole process of being able to influence your visibility online came about back in the 1990’s, as this is when search engines first started to consider the idea of categorizing web pages.
Back then, it was a pretty simple process. All the site owner had to do was simply submit her site address to the search engine in question. Over the years, the whole system got a lot more complicated, so much so that not many people really know the exact science behind perfect SEO.
Of course, there are some steps that all web owners should be taking into consideration when trying to improve their SEO. These factors include:
- SSL Security: According to Harsha from SEO Tribunal, 27% of the top 10 search results use https.
- Page speed: The average speed of a top-ranking site is 1,900 ms, which is around 17% faster than a site that ranks 10th.
- Content quality: In general, longer and more informative content seems to rank higher in Google’s search results. On average, the first page result on Google is around 1,890 words in length.
- Bounce rate: The bounce rate on a website that ranks first in Google is nearly 8.7% lower than the bounce rate of a website that ranks 10th.
- Click through rate (CTR): Experts in SEO have confirmed that the CTR rate directly impacts the site’s ranking.
- Images: 97% of the pages that appear on the first page of search results will have at least one image somewhere on the page.
- Time spent on page: The time users spend on a page has positive impact on the page’s ranking.
- Backlink profile: Websites that rank 1st on Google have nearly 6 times more links than sites that rank 10th.
