You may have heard earlier this week that there was an interesting event on the Senate floor.
On January 26th, 2016 the Senate floor was completely made up of women!
That’s right, after a blizzard took over D.C. and surrounding states, it was difficult to navigate the icy roads, but, that didn’t stop this small group of Senators, Pages and Parliamentarians from making history!
2 Senators, each from snowy states, some parliamentarians and some other staffers, were the only people on the senate floor—and they were all women.
I don’t know about you, but I thought this was pretty dang cool! Especially considering no women had even worked in the senate until 1922.
Senator Murkowski thought it was notable as well.
One thing that Murkowski said stands out—it speaks to the character of these women who braved the icy streets.
But really—this is the spirit of all women.
She said
Perhaps it just speaks to the hardiness of women that you put on your boots, put your hat on, and get out and slog through the mess that is out there.
As a majority-female marketing firm, we understand this mentality (and champion it in all that we do).
Braving the cold, braving the circumstances, pushing through, one challenge at a time.
This is one of my favorite things about working with other woman-owned businesses—their mentality, their resilience, and their ability to show up, even when times get though!
According to a report from Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) the number of women-owned businesses is continuing to increase and has grown a whopping 68 percent since 2007.
This is exciting news for us at Blue Steele Solutions, not only because we are one of those woman-owned firms, but because we have the opportunity to work with more of these types of forward-moving, innovative women.
